Michele's Story

Michele's Story
From Volunteer to Employee
Michele

Meet Michele. Michele came on board as a volunteer with a big heart and a willingness to jump in and learn new things. She remained committed throughout the pandemic, becoming a lead volunteer to help guide groups that were assisting us in keeping up with demand while being short on regular volunteers. We were very happy when she applied for and accepted the position of Warehouse Coordinator in 2022!

“I began volunteering at the Northshore Food Bank in the summer of 2019 and loved it from day one!  I started out packing lagniappe boxes and when we moved to the new building in January 2020, I switched to donation sorting.  I also assisted with the St. Tammany Cancer Center pantry client registration and with various community outreach events.  I had a desire to be more involved with the day-to-day operations, so in September 2022, I accepted the part-time position of Warehouse Coordinator.  I feel that volunteering in different areas made my transition to the staff much smoother.

My experience at NSFB has been more fulfilling and humbling than I could have ever imagined.  Food insecurity is an important cause for me, and being a part of NSFB’s mission has made my time here even more meaningful.  The gratitude that the clients express during distribution warms my heart and confirms that I have found my purpose at this time in my life.  Also, witnessing the generosity of the community through food drives, donations, and volunteering makes me proud to be part of such a wonderful and giving community.  It is a joy to be here each day and am grateful and blessed to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing staff and group of volunteers.  I hope to be a part of this important organization for many years to come.”
