Student Volunteer Application

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the NorthshoreFood Bank . Please read through our volunteer handbook and student guidelines prior to filing out the volunteer application below. Once you have read through our volunteer handbook you may complete our volunteer application below. By submitting your volunteer application you acknowledge that you have read through our volunteer handbook and student guidelines. Once submitted, our Volunteer Coordinator will review your application and be in touch regarding your schedule and send you the required confirmation voucher in order to volunteer.

Students must fill out the form below and wait for their confirmation voucher. Volunteers that show up to volunteer WITHOUT their voucher will not be accepted. Students requesting dates within 72 hours of the application submission date will most likely not receive confirmation and will need to pick a new date more than 72 hours from the application submission date. Please note that this application is not for students coming as part of a scheduled group. Groups may submit their requests by emailing

Students must indicate which dates they are available for volunteer work. Failure to list dates may result in rejection of application. Students are NOT registered until they receive an email confirmation with approved dates. Drop-Ins are subject to being sent home.
Do you have physical or mental limitations which would prevent you from heavy lifting or moving 35-50 lbs of food or furniture? Are you able to sit, stand and stoop frequently or for extended periods? If you have limitations please list below. This could determine placement area. Scheduling and Agreement
We ask that all volunteers schedule shifts in advance and do their best to be present and on time for each event or shift. If you know you will be late or unable to attend, please contact the person in charge of the event or the volunteer coordinator at least 24 hours before the event or as soon as you know you will be unable to attend. Volunteers are asked to sign in and out on CFB volunteer time sheets each time they volunteer. Volunteers should check the Covington Food Bank Facebook page for notices regarding closures, emergencies, or any other unforeseen circumstances that might cause CFB to close.
Due to the sensitivity of the data collected from participants, donors, staff and volunteers of CFB, including the Thrift Store and Dental Clinic, all information is considered confidential and should be treated as such. Discretion and audio privacy is required when discussing sensitive information while volunteering. Additionally sensitive information concerning participants, donors, staff and volunteers should not be discussed with anyone outside of CFB.
Liability Waiver
I agree on behalf of myself, my heirs, successors, and assigns, to hold harmless and defend Food Bank of Covington, Inc., and their respective members(s), officers, trustees, directors, employees, representatives, and agents from any and all claims, causes of action and/or lawsuits, including but not limited to any such claims, causes of action and/or lawsuits alleging bodily injury, personal injury, pain, mental anguish, and/or death, and/or property loss or damage, arising from or in connection with my Volunteer Services or in connection with any illness or injury or cost of medical treatment in connection therewith, and I agree to compensate Food Bank of Covington, Inc., and their respective members(s), officers, trustees, directors, employees, representatives, and agents associated with the activity for reasonable attorney's fees and expenses arising in connection therewith.
Dress Code
Volunteers are asked to wear appropriate clothing and CLOSED TOE SHOES (no sandals) when working in any department of the Food Bank, Thrift Store and Dental Clinic or at outside events. If clothing is deemed inappropriate by CFB management or open toed shoes are worn, the volunteer will be sent home and requested to change prior to returning.
Dismissal of a Volunteer
As described in the Volunteer Handbook, Volunteers who do not adhere to the rules and procedures of Northshore Food Bank or who fail to satisfactorily perform their volunteer assignment are subject to dismissal. Possible grounds for dismissal may include, but are not limited to, the following: gross misconduct or insubordination, theft of property or misuse of agency materials, abuse or mistreatment of clients, staff or other volunteers, being under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to abide by agency policies and procedures, and failure to satisfactorily perform assigned duties.
Photo Release
I consent to the unrestricted use of any and all photographs taken by the Covington Food Bank in whole or in part, in any form or medium, including, without limitation, to its use through or on any electronic media, including the internet.
